Text Box: From the President … By Bob Getz
It seems these days we cannot read a newspaper or watch
the news on television without getting inundated with bad news.
Although the Village has received its share of bad news this past year, I think the good far out weighs the bad.
Our Music in the Park program, completed its second season this                     past summer, and was a huge success. Average attendance for the                     three programs was about 90 people.
The fireworks on July 3rd were again watched by a record a                        number of people, and rivaled any fireworks in the area. Thanks to some traffic control changes by the Baroda-Lake Twp. Police Department, we were able to have everyone out of the Village in less than an hour.
Barodafest was also a big hit in September! The
committee worked very hard at adding some more events,
including a rock climbing wall and laser tag. Everyone had
a great time. Next year is the 10th anniversary of
Barodafest and the committee is already hard at work to
make it the best Barodafest ever!!!
In October we had our first Bicycle Rodeo and Safety
Day in Baroda, sponsored by The Southwest Michigan
Planning Planning Commission and the Village. For our first
attempt and being held so late in the year, it was considered a
success. Sixteen children participated in the Bike Rodeo and were taught bicycle safety and many others came to participate in the other activities.
We were also able to obtain some grant money this year as well. In February we were given $70,000 of Federal stimulus money via the Berrien County Road Commission to rework the intersection of Hills Road and First Street. Construction will begin in May 2010. At the same time we also obtained a $120,000 grant from the Road Commission to rebuild Hills Road from Sonoma Court to the Village limits. That grant is for 2012.
We are awaiting word from the State to see if we will be granted a Community Development Block Grant to do a streetscape project on First Street in 2010 or 2011.
We also received a $50,000 grant from the U.S.D.A. Rural Development to loan to qualifying businesses here in the Village.
The Council would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season, and remember, think positive, better times are just around the corner!
